4th Grade

At Altamont Grade School students begin to take on new types of work and social experiences in the fourth grade.  New directions and long-range planning are required by their assignments and they may have to begin collaborating with their peers.

Expanding their knowledge of books students will begin to become sophisticated readers and spend long periods of time reading and writing on their own.  Fourth graders will begin to use research tools such as: dictionaries, encyclopedias, the library and the internet.  In fourth grade math a student will read, write, compare, add, subtract, multiply and divide with large whole numbers.  In Science class our students will begin to learn about complex systems and changes in the earth over time.  Social Sciences begin to turn the corner from the history of the local community and expand to a state-wide history curriculum.
